How to evaluate a hair extension method / product
by
Lisa Wallace

In my 16 years of performing hair extension services and also wearing hair extensions myself, I have invested an extraordinary amount of time and money on researching methods and attending hair extension seminars. I feel confident to say that I am very well versed in just about any method on the market. Some hair extension methods I find work very well and I use those methods regularly in my professional extension practice. On the other hand, other methods I feel are sub par, so consequently I don’t use them in my work.

When I am researching a new hair extension method, these are the criteria that I take into consideration to determine if that method may be beneficial for my clients:

  • The hair extension must be easy for me to apply to the client and must not cause any discomfort to my client.
  • The hair extensions must stay in the hair well without problems of slipping or shedding.
  • The hair extensions must be non-damaging for the client’s hair and scalp.
  • The hair extensions must be easy to remove.
  • The hair extensions must be able to be reused at least once before the client should need to purchase new hair.

There are many different extension methods and each method has its own unique strengths and weaknesses. As a potential hair extension client attempts to navigate through the numerous choices and tries to discern what might be the best method for their individual situation, it’s very helpful to consult a hair extension specialist who is well versed in the pro’s and con’s of several methods. With hair extensions, the idiom ‘one size fits all’ certainly does not apply. So, in order to be able to suit just about any client who walks into your salon, a good, knowledgeable hair extensionist should be well versed in several methods.

When a person comes in for a hair extension consultation, there are a few key points that must be considered in order to select the method that is most appropriate for that person. These key points to be considered are:

  • The client’s hair type.
  • Client’s hair health.
  • Client’s lifestyle.
  • Client’s budget.
  • Desired end result
  • Client’s ability / willingness to correctly maintain hair extensions by coming in for regular appointments, using professional products, utilizing proper daily brushing techniques, and other important care procedures.

Currently the market has been saturated and dominated with these strand techniques:

  • Fusion
  • Micro rings / Eurolocs / Hairlocs
  • Shrink Links / Shrinkies / Shrink Tubes

I am introducing a new strand type extension that is vastly different than all the above mentioned methods.
Announcing…Godiva Flat Strands

  • The strands lay perfectly flat to the head to ensure greater client comfort without bulkiness.
  • No shedding.
  • Godiva Strands can be placed farther up on the head.

  • Godiva Flat Strands are reusable.
  • Godiva hair is available in a full array of colors and textures.
  • Easy application and easy removal
